New U2 gig found

A new U2 gig at Ballina Town Hall has been added. Gig took place on 22/03/1980, with Polar Moon as the support. Up to this point it had been throught that U2 only played Ballina once.
Greengove has also been confirmed as the venue for U2's 1978 Ennis gig with The Verbs as the support

Many thanks to Patrick Brooklebank & Ken Sweeney for confirming that Larry Mullen played at the Hot Press Christmas at McGonagle's in 1978. Ken also supplied the two songs that (Dave) George Sweeney, Paul Boyle both from The Vipers, Steve Jones from the Sex Pistols & Larry Mullen performed. (Dave) George also supplied the photo that Patrick took of them playing together.
Dave was known as "George" back in his days with Rocky DeValera & The Gravediggers & The Vipers.

AdvertThis concert took place during what had previously been thought was a 3 week break in the "Boy" tour. Although U2 are not list on the advertising for this gig I can confirm that they did appear. The Black Catholics again started trouble at this gig, with a few fights breaking out. This is the one & only time U2 appeared with John Cooper Clarke.
